Overview
Wooli: A Creative Hub for Fiber Artists
Wooli is a web app prototype designed to foster collaboration, education, and inspiration within the fiber arts community. Developed as a senior capstone project at Kennesaw State University, the team followed Goal-Directed Design (GDD) methodology to create a platform tailored to user needs.
The Problem
The fiber arts community is fragmented across outdated and inefficient platforms. Artists struggle to find a central hub for creating, learning, and sharing designs, limiting their creative growth and visibility.
The Solution
Wooli provides an all-in-one hub for fiber artists to design, manage, and share patterns while connecting with a like-minded community.
Design Process
Research and Insights
Problem Discovery: Existing apps focus on distributing patterns, but there’s no unified platform for community-building and design creation.
Key User Needs: Access to an intuitive design canvas, organized patterns, and community resources.
Literature Review: Considered cultural themes (e.g., weaving’s historical significance) and e-commerce integration strategies.
User Research
Conducted wireframe and usability tests to identify improvements like:
Highlighting important buttons.
Adding the ability to upload pattern instructions as PDFs.
Making the learning page more visually engaging.
Prototyping and Iteration
Developed low-fidelity wireframes and mapped user pathways based on personas.
Created a high-fidelity prototype incorporating feedback from usability testing, leading to refinements:
Added a dedicated home page for clarity.
Enabled AI-driven pattern generation.
Streamlined pattern uploads with PDF support.
Key Outcomes
Design Evolution: Pivoted from an art board concept to an AI generator based on user feedback.
Usability Improvements: Iterations led to more intuitive navigation and efficient user interactions.
This project was my senior capstone and exemplifies the skills and methodologies I developed as a student designer, combining user-centered design principles, collaboration, and problem-solving to address a real-world need in the fiber arts community.
